Découvrir
Between Reims, Épernay and Châlons-en-Champagne, in the Montagne de Reims Regional Nature Park, the region is brimming with hidden gems. What is there to do in the Montagne de Reims during your stay? Exceptional forests, listed villages, passionate winegrowers and unusual curiosities: here are just a few ideas among many to discover the treasures of our region.
Things to do in Trépail
Here, nature is best explored on foot or by bike, along long-distance hiking trails and mountain-bike paths. A locked storage room is available for you to keep your bikes and secure your gear throughout your stay.
All that’s left is to hop on your bike or lace up your shoes and set off to discover the magnificent landscapes of the Montagne de Reims!
The Linden Loop
A 5 km loop starting from the village, two hours' walk at a gentle pace. The trail slips into the forest, where the plantations shift in species and age from one plot to the next. Pleasant year-round, it's at its best in autumn.
Outdoor Trails Map
Discover the new map dedicated to the hiking, mountain-biking and cycle-touring trails of the Montagne de Reims.
For hiking, the selected routes are those laid out and waymarked by the FFRP / CDRP Marne (GR®, GR® de Pays and short Promenade et Randonnée loops), the trails created by the Park and by the ONF (in the Forêts d'Exception® areas), as well as a few local loops featuring educational elements such as interpretive panels.
The map also brings together many points of interest for exploring the Park and its heritage: natural, historical, cultural and architectural.
Vineyard Loges Trail in Trépail
In Trépail, the Loges de Vigne trail sets off from the village and winds through vineyards planted mainly with Chardonnay, where the loges nestle: these small stone, wood or brick huts posted at the edge of the plots, a reminder of the daily life of winegrowers in times past. Along the 5.2 km route, interpretive panels reveal the work of the vine and how these landscapes were shaped. An easy trail, accessible to all.
Trépail: a village tale
Set off to discover Trépail through its winding lanes. The winegrowers' houses, old façades and glimpses out over the vineyards reveal the soul of the village and the life that has unfolded here for generations. A short, easy stroll just steps from Pré en Bulles, to savour the quiet charm of this Champagne village.
Forêt Royale Trail (PR 48)
A 9.4 km loop (about 2h30) starting just 50 metres from Pré en Bulles. The trail climbs into the forest of the Montagne de Reims and passes nearly a thousand Faux de Verzy: these twisted, otherworldly beech trees, unique in the world, whose secret scientists are still trying to unravel. Along the way, vines and villages stretch as far as the eye can see. And on your return, your gîte is waiting right there, to catch your breath with a glass of Champagne in hand.
Les Faux de Verzy
A state forest unique in the world, home to more than 800 twisted beech trees, their contorted silhouettes protected within the heart of the Regional Nature Park. A 2.8 km waymarked trail, certified Tourisme & Handicap, runs through the biological reserve. Magical in every season.
The must-sees
Beyond the trails of Trépail, Champagne holds a few visits not to be missed. Listed monuments, wine museums and unusual outings, all less than an hour from your accommodation.
Boat Ride on the Mau
Nicknamed the "sparkling Venice," Châlons-en-Champagne is best explored along the water. Aboard a boat, a storytelling guide travels up the Mau and the Nau, glides beneath the old bridges and plunges into an underground gallery several hundred metres long before emerging onto the Petit Jard. Three routes to choose from, including a night-time sound-and-light show, unique in Europe.
Museum of Champagne Wine and Regional Archaeology
Housed in the Château Perrier on the famous Avenue de Champagne, this museum unfolds the history of the Champagne terroir, from the formation of the soil to the posters of the Belle Époque. Celtic ornaments, Gallo-Roman pottery, winegrowers' tools and interactive displays: two thousand objects to understand where Champagne comes from.
Reims Cathedral
The cathedral of the coronations deserves to be admired head held high: a façade chiselled like stone lace, a rose window nearly thirteen metres across, and 249 steps to reach the towers and take in Reims at a glance. Allow a good hour, more if the Smiling Angel holds you there.
Pressoria
Sensory museum set in a former Pommery pressing centre. A multi-sensory journey to understand the whole world of Champagne, from terroir to glass, without promoting any single brand. Designed for the whole family, tasting included.
La Cave aux Coquillages
A geological site unique in Europe. Beneath his own vineyards, a winegrower uncovered a perfectly preserved layer of 45-million-year-old marine fossils. The visit blends geology, terroir and a tasting of his Champagne, told with passion by the discoverer himself.
Le phare de Verzenay
An unusual lighthouse built in 1909 in the middle of the vineyards. From the top, a 360° panorama over the Montagne de Reims; at its foot, a scenographic museum telling the story of the winegrower's craft and the history of Champagne. Shop selling Champagnes from small local producers.
